Leveling agent is a widely used additive in liquid materials such as coatings, inks, adhesives, etc., aimed at improving the flowability and flatness of the surface after liquid coating, making the final coating surface smooth, without pinholes, orange peel lines and other defects.

Leveling agents can be classified into various types based on their chemical structure and mechanism of action, mainly including:

Organosilicon: Known for its low surface tension and good lubricity, it is commonly used in the field of high-end coatings.

Acrylic esters: have good wetting and leveling properties, and are widely used in various industrial coatings.

Fluorocarbons: have extremely high surface activity and weather resistance, suitable for coating systems under special environmental conditions.

Polymers such as polyurethane and polyethylene control the leveling effect by adjusting the length and polarity of their molecular chains.

Leveling agents mainly reduce surface tension, making it easier for coatings to spread on substrates and reducing uneven coating caused by uneven surface tension. Enhance the wetting ability of the coating to the substrate, ensuring that the coating can penetrate into the microstructure of the substrate and improve adhesion. Control the flowability and drying speed, adjust the flowability and volatilization rate of the coating, and prevent surface defects caused by rapid drying. Adjust the surface tension gradient to form a uniform tension gradient on the coating surface, promoting spontaneous leveling of the coating.

Leveling agents are widely used in the following fields:

Architectural coatings: such as latex paint for interior and exterior walls, waterproof coatings, etc., to improve the appearance and durability of coatings.

Automotive coatings: including primer, topcoat, etc., to ensure the smoothness and glossiness of the body coating.

Wood coatings: Improve the coating effect on the surface of wood, enhance the grade and texture of products.

Ink printing: Adding leveling agents to printing ink to improve the printing quality and clarity of printed materials.
