What is the working principle of papermaking defoamers?
Release time:2025-09-24 Page-views:16

In the process of paper production, foam has always been a key factor affecting product quality and production efficiency. Whether in pulping, paper making or coating, the production of foam will lead to paper defects, unstable equipment operation and even increased energy consumption. As a professional chemical defoamer additive, papermaking defoamers can efficiently solve this problem. So, how does the paper defoamer solve the foam problem efficiently?

The main reason for foam formation in papermaking process is that the air will be mixed into the foam during the violent mixing of mechanical mixing, pulping, beating and other links. At the same time, the addition of chemical additives containing surfactant such as sizing agent, wet strength agent, dye and so on is also easy to produce foam. A large amount of foam is easy to cause paper defects, and pinholes, holes or fisheyes are easy to form after the foam breaks, which reduces the strength and flatness of the paper. Foam will also affect the flow of pulp, resulting in uneven dehydration, paper break or equipment blockage, which will reduce the efficiency of papermaking equipment and affect production costs.

The defoamer molecule of paper defoamer has lower surface tension than that of foaming material, which can rapidly penetrate the foam liquid membrane, making it locally thinner and broken. The defoamer molecule can be adsorbed on the surface of foaming material, preventing gas retention and reducing the generation of new foam.

With the improvement of science and technology, the chemical compatibility and environmental friendliness of papermaking defoamers have also been greatly enhanced. In the future, papermaking defoamers will also move towards more efficient and environmentally friendly defoaming technologies, and help the papermaking industry solve defoaming problems more intelligently and efficiently.
